Bullying is a huge problem in schools. I worked in an elementary school as a co-op student for 6 months and i saw bullying first hand, and there was little i could do about it. The teacher i was with gave me as much authority in the class as an EA would have, but whatever i said to the students, a day or so later the bullies would be back at work and the bullied would again be crying and hugging my legs. its terrible.

when i was going through elementary school (which wasn't long ago, I'm only 18) the problem wasn't this bad. I think that too many parents have abandoned the needed discipline with their children. hell, i know they have. watching the disrespect the 8 year olds i taught gave their parents is proof enough. i don't mean beating their children, i definitely do not advocate that, but i think it should be made clear to children that there are consequences to bad acts on their parts. spanking is perfect for this. sharp pain, brief, but enough to get a message through without causing any damage and no pain that lasts more than five minutes.

bullying is a problem that needs to be dealt with much more aggressively by the school systems. If a child is seen bullying once, they should get a warning that is recorded in the office. a second time a parent conference, and after that a suspension. i don't care if the kid is 6 or 16, thats all there is to it.
